SA mourns DJ Dimplez

The South African entertainment industry is once again in mourning after the death of musician DJ Dimplez.

The DJ, real name Tumi Mooi, passed away on Sunday as a result of a sudden brain haemorrhage.

The news comes just weeks after DJ Citi Lyts was killed in a hail of bullets and just a week after rapper Riky Rick was buried, leading many to declare that there is a “dark cloud” over the South African entertainment industry right now.

A teacher at Wessel Maree Secondary School in Odendaalsrus, Free State, has been suspended after being caught on camera pushing a student violently.

The Free State’s education department said it has suspended the teacher with immediate effect and is investigating the incident.

In the video, which is widely shared on social media, the male teacher is face to face with the male student. The teacher appears to be telling the student to leave the classroom.

Nearly a year after widespread unrest that brought some South African businesses to their knees, KwaZulu-Natal Prime Minister Sihle Zikalala has said businesses and shops in rural areas affected by the deadly civil unrest will be compensated.

Zikalala spoke at a media briefing at the Department of Public Works in Mayville on Sunday. He addressed a range of topics, including issues arising after the KZN State of the Province address (Sopa) was awarded on February 24.

Pressure is mounting on SA to call on Russia to invade Ukraine

The Nelson Mandela Foundation has urged South Africa to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine amid mounting calls for the government to clarify its stance on the ongoing conflict.

In a statement, the foundation said it mourned the victims of the Russian invasion and called for “an cessation of hostilities and restoration of peace”.

Baxter ignores Zwane’s handshake, leads to split rumours

A clip on Twitter showing Kaizer Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter exchanging congratulations with his technical team after the game but ignoring Arthur Zwane has sparked rumors of a split.

Some have suggested that there are tensions between Baxter and his assistant, which is why he ignored him. The video shows Zwane trying to extend his hand, but quickly withdraws when Baxter walks away.
