Fall Guys in Guinness World Records

Fall Guys has been recognized by Guinness for its massive success among PlayStation Plus games, cementing its place in the record books.

Following its release last year, Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout became a cultural phenomenon in the gaming world. The game’s lighthearted take on the popular battle royale genre was an instant hit with players of all ages, and many popular streamers across multiple platforms made it their favorite. Fall Guys was a particularly popular PlayStation title, where it was prominently featured as a free PS Plus title. Now, the title has cemented its place in history.

In August of 2020, Devolver Digital and Mediatonic released Fall Guys to great fanfare. The game’s simplistic platformer take on battle royale, combined with a charming artstyle, progressed it to the top of the industry for the remainder of 2020 and into 2021.

Fall Guys has been officially added to the Guinness Book of World Records as the most downloaded PlayStation Plus game of all time, according to the official Fall Guys Twitter account. The record was set in August of last year, just weeks after the game’s initial release, and the game will now be included in the popular record-keeping books. Fall Guys’ Steam version had sold over 11 million copies in four months, and the PlayStation 4 version had over 8 million players in less than a month, according to Mediatonic.

Beyond its PlayStation success, the game has gained widespread recognition for its addictive gameplay and has fans begging for ports to other platforms. Fall Guys was confirmed by Mediatonic earlier this year for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, though the ports were delayed from their original release date of Summer 2021. Mediatonic has also confirmed that cross-play for Fall Guys is currently being developed, with the expectation that it will be released alongside those ports.

Last month marked the first anniversary of Fall Guys, and while the game isn’t as popular as it was when it first came out, Mediatonic has stated that it will continue to support its flagship title. Fall Guys has partnered with a number of well-known gaming franchises, including Ratchet and Clank and Among Us, and launched its fifth competitive season in July with a new jungle theme.
