FaZe Clan has been in the headlines recently mostly because of its pump and dump crypto scam, which looks to be growing worse. Internal criticism followed the event, with FaZe Clan firing FaZe Kay and suspending Nikan, Jarvin, and Teeqo. FaZe Sway’s one of the “Fortnite” creators code has been removed as a result of a different violation.
In a tweet on July 20th, FaZe Sway announced that “Fortnite” had disabled his creator code. Although losing a creator code is not the harshest punishment Epic Games can possibly charge, it may result in a substantial loss of profit for FaZe Sway, since the codes provide a method for the team to earn money outside of broadcasting. In essence, if a player has a creator code, they may offer it to their followers who would punch it through when purchasing V-Bucks. In that way, the creator will receive a cut of the sales.
FaZe Sway did not provide many insights when he made the news. The clip from Epic Games’ official statement that accompanied the tweet also did not provide much insight. Fans thought that the problem may have been FaZe Sway’s history of alleged provocative tweets, but the streamer quickly denied the said accusations.
When FaZe Sway posted a simple explanation of what had transpired, he put some of the controversies to rest. His creator code was reportedly invalidated as a result of his involvement in account sharing. FaZe Sway went on to say that he had been “going on viewers’ accounts and getting them to championships” as an example of how he had broken the rules of service.
This is not the first time Fortnite has punished gamers for sharing accounts. For account sharing, 48 participants were banned for 14 days at the World Cup Online Open. A developer who earns money from the game, such as FaZe Sway, is expected to serve as an ambassador for appropriate Fortnite behavior to his audience. Taking over fan accounts and “taking them to champions” not only helps players level up quicker and avoid the “Fortnite” grind’s revenue components, but it may also normalize the conduct for spectators.
FaZe Sway appeared to be unfazed by his penalty. He tweeted that he “lowkey needed a wakeup call like this” after learning that his creator code had been deactivated, and subsequently claimed that he did not care about the matter on a Twitch stream.
This might be because the creator code’s description warns users to “expect modest outcomes” or because the punishment could have been harsher — after all, he wasn’t blacklisted.
