Summit1g’s Explanation

A veteran Twitch streamer Summit1g explains why he won’t be playing Amazon’s forthcoming MMORPG, New World, to his audience.

Amazon’s MMORPG New Industry, which was finally released on September 28th after many betas and delays, has become the buzz of the gaming world. New World quickly surpassed half a million players, and daily Steam figures are currently hovering around 840,000, making it the most popular game on the platform.

Despite the game’s rapid success, Summit1g, a popular Twitch streamer, has expressed his disinterest in live-streaming New World at this time.

A seasoned Twitch veteran who began streaming on the site back in 2012, Summit1G is last known for his world record-breaking Max Payne 3 speedrun and has amassed a powerful follower count of 5.9 million on Twitch.

Summit1g then further elaborated his thoughts on New World and MMOs normally versus other genres like competitive shooters, “I’d rather get nice, cheeky 1v1s than 6v6s… That’s the thing about MMO’s, there’s a ceiling and everybody hits it. It means everyone else below them catches up.”

A lack of any meaningful MMORPG releases outside of expansion packs has possibly left room for brand spanking new Worlds within the MMORPG space. Activision Blizzard’s World of Warcraft is trapped during a messy legal battle regarding the treatment of its workers, and Final Fantasy 14’s upcoming Endwalker expansion isn’t set to release until November 23rd.

Except New World, there are only a few new IPs within the MMO space, particularly any with a budget as large as Amazon’s offering. Summit1g certainly makes some criticism regarding New World and therefore the nature of MMORPGs versus competitive shooters like Counter-Strike or Valorant.
