New Super Mario Bros. U, a P2P version of Super Mario Bros. that is suitable for one to three players, combines the Wii Super Mario Bros. U with the Super Luigi U game specifically for Nintendo Switch. The 2.5D side-scrolling gameplay is maintained and slightly enhanced graphics are included. It will be released on January 11, 2019.
Bowser and his many cohorts invade Princess Peach’s castle in both of these games. He captures all the characters and throws them away from his castle. Now it is their task to conquer all hurdles and return to Mushroom Kingdom to rescue Princess Peach. Super Luige U. has one difference: Mario isn’t there at the castle to defend Princess Peach from Bowser, and he’s not a playable character.
Both games feature players competing in races through the courses solo, or with up to four teammates to meet up against the boss. Players will be faced with many opponents, each one having different capabilities and looks. They’ll need to use different power-ups and skills to get past them. To avoid monsters or avoid them, players will use platforms on the ground and sides of cliffs to jump. They also collect coins and power-ups to help themselves beat the time and score higher.
Each course has its own unique characteristics, such as a slippery snow-themess course where Mario is required to wear a penguin suit power suit in order to quickly slide through opponents and over platform gaps.
- To make your character turn, press the jump button on the controller.
- Only players can grab or pick up objects by moving the controller.
This version has five characters that can be played, including Mario, Luige and Princess Peach. The Yellow Toad is new, Nabbit, Toadette and Yellow Toad are also available.
The character’s durability means that it cannot take any damage. Players won’t have to worry about him taking damage and can just run past enemies. He cannot be defeated by enemies unless they are jumped upon, nor can he collect power-up abilities. Nabbit may be an introductory character, which will let players get to grips with the mechanics of the game without having them killed.
She plays the character in the same manner as other characters, except that she can power up and become Peachette. The Super Crown was her way to do this. The form works in a similar way to Mario’s Squirrel costume, allowing her to glide more easily and to jump higher. Other characters who collect the Crown will earn points. Peachette looks almost exactly like Princess Peach, except she has her hair pulled back and wears a pink crown with a rounded shape. Toadette still has the ability to pick up power-up items like the acorn which can transform her into a squirrel version with gliding abilities.
It seems like New Super Mario Bros. Ultimate and the 2012 games don’t have much in common, aside from two new characters. This bundle will only be available for Nintendo Switch, not the Nintendo Wii. The courses appear to remain the same in both the original and updated titles.
