Super Smash Bros. Fans Wants New Mario Moveset

Mario has been Nintendo’s most recognizable character since his debut in 1981. Over the years, the mustachioed mascot has appeared in a slew of games, including the Super Smash Bros. series. The character was one of 12 introduced in the first game and has since appeared in every subsequent installment of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. While Mario has appeared in a slew of games since the original Smash in 1999, his moveset has remained largely unchanged. That appears to have irritated some fans, including GamesCage. The Twitch streamer bemoaned some of Nintendo’s decisions for Mario on Twitter, sparking heated debate about Mario’s moveset.

The use of Mario’s cape in the game, according to GamesCage, should better reflect its debut in Super Mario World, as an item that helps Mario float. Many fans suggested things that could be done to “fix” the character in the comments, including the removal of FLUDD. The talking backpack first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine in 2001, and it was later added to Mario’s moveset in Super Smash Bros. in 2008. Brawl. However, as Twitter user @Plushski points out, FLUDD hasn’t made an appearance in any Mario games since then. There are a slew of other skills that could be gleaned from more recent games.

While Mario was clearly the focus of attention, some fans claimed that a number of the original Smash fighters could use some polishing before the next game’s release. However, some Smash purists may object to these characters being drastically altered. Of course, there has been no announcement about a new Smash game, so it could be a moot point. Nintendo can’t afford to wait too long before releasing a new game in the series, so we’re unlikely to see another until the Switch successor arrives, whenever that may be. Nintendo has also completed the major Super Smash Bros. updates. Despite the addition of a new Spirit to the game recently.
