WATCH: Sky News journalist shot and wounded in Ukraine

A British television crew was ambushed outside Kiev earlier this week, in which a journalist was injured, their employer Sky News said.

Stuart Ramsay, Sky News’ chief correspondent, was hit by a bullet in the lower back on Monday as they drove towards the Ukrainian capital.

Sky News showed footage of the attack late Friday.

Two bullets hit a cameraman’s body armor. The crew of five escaped from their car and were later rescued by Ukrainian police.

A Russian saboteur reconnaissance unit is suspected of carrying out the attack, according to Sky News.

“Bullets fell like a waterfall all over the car, tracers, bullets, windshield, plastic seats, steering wheel and dashboard had all fallen apart,” Ramsay said in a written report.

The news crew is now safe and back in the UK, while their Ukrainian producer is in Ukraine with his family.

“The thing is, we’ve been very lucky,” Ramsay said.

“But thousands of Ukrainians are dying and families, like us, are being targeted by Russian assassination squads, who drive into a family saloon and are attacked.”
